Incorrect reference?
In his Plato’s Republic: A biography, which is excellent in many other ways, Simon Blackburn cites Thucydides’ account of Athens’s brutal attack on the small city state of Melos: pp. 32-37. However, in an endnote to this he refers to Herodotus’s The Histories. Its ISBN is 9780192824257, here it is on Blackwell’s.
As far as I can recall, Herodotus wrote about the Persian Wars, not the Peloponnesian War, when this episode occurs. And while I haven’t so much as skimmed the book Blackburn cites, nowhere does it follow from the description of it that it also contains anything by Thucydides (which would indeed be odd).
